Zach
Whitson's Counterpoint Tactical System, also known by the
acronym CTS, is a weapon-based, integrated martial art that
places emphasis on real world tactical counter offense.
Although an eclectic martial art, the Counterpoint Tactical
System's largest traditional influence can be found from
Filipino Martial Arts.
Students of
Ryer Martial Arts Academy's Counterpoint Tactical System program will be
introduced to progressive categories of training. These categories
include empty hands training; including striking, stand-up
grappling, and ground fighting; also weapons tactics such as single
and double stick, single and double knife, staff, spear, sword, and
finally stick and dagger also known as Espada y Daga.
Although
CTS includes the tactics of other disciplines,
it holds the Filipino martial arts as its base. Filipino
martial arts have always been a mix of fighting disciplines.
Most systems contain some degree of “Panatukan” a punching
and street boxing method; “Dumog” a specialized
grappling method; “Sikaran”
a unique kicking and stomping method; and "Pangamot"
to fight against blunt weapons with only your empty hands.
